Memoir
Any time you have a spare twenty minutes, you can sit down and write a snapshot recollection from your life. You’ll eventually stockpile a variety of stories that are profound, silly, sad, reflective or funny … just like life itself! Pick a prompt at random, and get started. The prompt may end up triggering a memory that’s only tangentially related to the question at hand – that’s OK. Follow the tugging of your heart, and let your pen take you where it wants to go.
Write about…
- a costume (or a uniform) you once wore
- how you earned pocket money when you were too young for a ‘real’ job
- your favourite toy (as a child or adult!)
- an argument
- a memory associated with your car
- a moment in which you were proud of yourself
- the reason you have the name you do
- a time you gave or received flowers
- an unusual neighbour
- a time you got in trouble
- food you used to eat when you were young
- a sibling’s most annoying habit
- a talent you’d love to have been born with
- the task you most hate to do
- a wedding anecdote
- a pair of shoes
- something you coveted when you were young
- a friend you lost track of
- a lesson you learned
- something you swore you’d never do – then did
- yours, or someone’s, experience with the paranormal
- a childhood pet
- the most exotic thing you’ve cooked or eaten
- things you weren’t (or aren’t!) allowed to do
